Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): Prominent Ophthalmologist of the Kashmir Valley, Dr Mohammad Younis Rafiqi breathed his last on Saturday morning at CD hospital in Srinagar after a brief illness.

Family sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that he breathed his last at 10:00 am in the morning today.

They said that he will be laid to rest at his birthplace Muqam Shaheed Mir in the evening.

Notably, Dr Rafiqi was the father-in-law of Naseem Geelani (son of late Syed Ali Shah Geelani). 

Dr Rafiqi was born in May 1943 at Muqam Shaheed Mir area of Zainageer and completed his MBBS from GMC Srinagar in 1966 and post graduation from AMU Aligarh in 1971.

He served in the health department of J&K until 1974 when he started his own clinic at Sopore and was the first person to establish a private nursing home in the Kashmir valley in 1983.

Meanwhile, several social, political and religious organisations have condoled the demise of Dr Rafiqi and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. (KNS)
