 Srinagar March 24 (KNS):After major reshuffle in Jammu and Kashmir Police department, the district chiefs who assumed their offices at new places expressed determination to curb the drug menace and termed public-oriented policing one of  their top priorities.

Speaking to KNS,  after assuming charge as Senior Superintendent of Police District Ganderbal, Suhail Munawar Mir emphasized on resuming police-public meetings in the district to minimize gap between police and people.

"The idea of public meetings was an effective way for the police to reach out to the people and invite them for suggestions, we will redesign the program for hassle free Police-Public bond”, he added.

Emphasizing on the significance of people-centric policing, the top cop said that he attaches much significance on collecting feedback from people to assess their expectations from the force rather than unilaterally imposing policing methods.

“The idea is to instill a sense of security and safety in people. Vulnerable sections like women and children should feel safe all the time, especially at public places. We have some very good officers who are capable of achieving very high standards of policing,” SSP Ganderbal said.

My priority is addressing the drug menace in the district and keep our youth away from it,” he added.

SSP Baramulla, Mohammad Rayees Bhat while talking to news agency-Kashmir News Service (KNS) also stated that addressing drug menace in Baramulla will be his one of the top priority.

"We wish the people of Baramulla will  come forward and we will try to solve their problems as much as we can and will co-operate with us in fighting against social evils especially drug menace “he added.

Reaction to a question, he said, “Only those who work against the law need to be afraid of the police. Baramulla police will work for betterment of Public and law abiding citizens will be fully supported", he added.(KNS)
