Says top most wanted militant of JeM Wakeel Shah among three killed in Tral Gunfight

Srinagar, Aug 21(KNS): Inspector-General of Police Vijay Kumar on Friday said that political background people who are speaking truth are being targetted by militants while the police is trying very hard to provide safety and security to the leaders. 

Talking to the media here at Awantipora, the IGP however, said that it is not possible for police to provide security to every political workers or leaders. "If anybody feels that he needs security he should immediately approach the police and the security will be provided to them, " he added. 

About today encounter he said that three including a most wanted militant 'Wakeel Shah' of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant outfit were killed in an encounter in the forests Nagbaeran Tral area of Awantipora in South Kashmir's Pulwama district . 

He said that the today's operation was a very difficult operation but our forces have completed it without any collateral damaged.

The IGP, Kashmir said, Army and police launched search operation and early morning firing started in which 3 militants of Jash-e-Mohammad were killed. "One militant has been identified as Wakeel Shah, who was involved in the killing of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a SPO, " he said. 

 Rakesh Pandita, a municipal councillor of Tral in Pulwama district and BJP leader, was killed by militants on June 2. Pandita was visiting a friend, Mushtaq Ahmad, when three militants opened fire at them. 

The IGP Kashmir said that the identification of the other two militants is being verified while wakeel was one of the most wanted militants in the police record. 

"Two AK-47 rifles, one SLR, UBGL and other warlike stores have been recovered from the three killed militants in the Tral encounter, " he added. (KNS).
