Anantnag, Jan 15 (KNS): Anantnag Police on Friday apprehended a notorious drug peddler along with huge consignment of codeine phosphate.
According to reports reaching to KNS, Police Post General Bus Stand Anantnag on the directions of SSP Anantnag Sandeep Chowdhary laid a Naka in Lazibal Anantnag on the intervening night of January 14 and 15.
“With the coordinated efforts of SSP Anantnag, DSP headquarters and Duty Officer Police Post General Bus Stand Anantnag, a notorious drug peddler namely Mushtaq Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Ahad Khan resident of Anchidora was arrested during Naka in Lazibal Anantnag”, a police official told KNS.
He added huge consignment of codeine phosphate was recovered from the possession of arrestee. The police official termed the arrest of Khan “big achievement”, saying he was wanted by police from several years and multiple FIRs were registered against him.
Police has lodged a case in this regard under FIR No. 8/2021 and taken up further legal proceedings.
Speaking to KNS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag Sandeep Chowdhary has sought wide public support in eradicating drug menace from the district “We have directed officers to gear up and speed up process of eradicating drug peddlers. JK Police is committed to render its services for the wellbeing of society”, SSP said.
Meanwhile Civil Society Anantnag hailed the efforts of Police in curbing drug menace in the district. “Police is really doing a great job in safeguarding the ethos of society. Drug menace has brought bad name to our society and whosoever would be involved in it, Police should take tough action against them without coming into influence”, they said. (KNS)
