Police arrests 03 drug peddlers in Kulgam, Awantipora; Contraband substance recovered

 

Kulgam March 09:(KNS)  Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace the drugs from the society, Police have arrested 03 drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora & recovered contraband substance from their possession.

In Kulgam, Officers at a checkpoint established at Sempora Derpora crossing intercepted a vehicle (Chevrolet Sail) bearing registration number JK22-6514 with one person on board. He has been identified as Mohd Iqbal Shah son of Mohd Amin Shah resident of Munnad Yaripora. During search officers were able to recover 20grams of Heroin and weighing machine from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 09/2021 under relevant sections of  law has been registered in Police Station Behibagh and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Meanwhile, acting on specific information regarding drug dealings in Nowpora Akhran area, a police party headed by I/C PP Mirbazar under the supervision of SDPO Qazigund and SHO PS Qazigund rushed to the spot and apprehended a notorious drug supplier/peddler of the area identified as Showkat Ahmad Palla son of Mohd Maqbool Pala resident of Nowpora Akhran. During checking, officers were able to recover 15gms of Charas and 5Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No.43/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated. 

Similarly in Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at MEI Crossing Pampore intercepted one person identified as Yawer Rashid Sofi son of Abdul Rashid Sofi resident of Namblabal Pampore.  During checking, officers were able to recover 7Kgs of Poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pampore where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 26/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pampore and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KNS)
