ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON CAREER COUNSELLING AND PLACEMENT ORGANISED BY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY

Baramulla, Nov 20 (KNS): Department of Sociology organized a one-day workshop on “Career Counseling and Placement” for the outgoing students of Sociology. The invited speakers for the occasion were Suhail-ul-Islam who is currently holding the charge of Deputy Secretary to the Govt., Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment and Zeeshan Khan , currently holding the charge of BDO Baramulla.

Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather, the Principal of the college, after formally welcoming the guest stressed upon the importance of conducting such type of workshops by highlighting the aim of career counseling as to help students to choose a field that is in tune with their skills and their job expectations. Thus, with professional help, most candidates end up choosing the right career and perform their level best which help them succeed.

The workshop was divided into two sessions and the first session was delivered by Mr. Suhail-ul-Islam. While interacting with the students, he stressed upon the need for good policy makers and administrators especially from social sciences background, who with their better understanding of people and society can come to the ground level for a reality check. He also directed the students to pursue higher education from eminent universities and aspire for fellowships and emerge as great researchers. His passionate and informative address left a profound impact upon all to aim high and achieve big.
The next speaker, Mr. Zeeshan Khan, a person with a positive aura, underlined the importance of being optimistic through and through – which according to him is the success mantra. Moreover, he particularly emphasized that one should not shy away from taking help, practice deep learning and above all, be a good human. While the former guest enlightened the students with his experience and humble nature, the latter inspired them with his positivity and confidence. The workshop culminated with a threadbare discussion and a fruitful question-answer session.
The workshop was beautifully moderated by Ms Amira Wali, Head department of Social Work. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Abdul Majeed Chalkoo, Convener IQAC. Dr. Tanveer Ahmad, PTI of the college, Ms Iram Shafi, Head department of IT, Dr. Shoaib Ahmad Bhat and Dr. Lateef Ahmad, Guest faculty of Sociology and Economics respectively provided the full cooperation and support in conducting the workshop.
Lastly, Ms Shaista Qayum, Head Department of Sociology and the organizer of the event, concluded the workshop by honoring the guests with Mementos and Vote of appreciation. (KNS)
