No grenade attack at aspiring Sarpanch in Handwara: Police

Handwara, Nov 29 (KNS): Handwara police on Sunday late night refuted news reports that militants hurled grenade on Sarpach candidate's residence in north Kashmir's Handwara.

Talking to KNS, SP Handwara G.V Sandeep refuted news report that mentioned militants hurled grenade on the house of Sarpach candidate namely Azad Ahmad Bhat son of Khazir Mohammad Bhat of Yaroo area of Langate. Bhat according to reports is fighting Sarpach polls from Yaroo vacant seat.

"The news reports about the attack on Sarpach candidates house is rumor", SP Handwara told KNS, and added "People should not pay ear to baseless news reports.

He added whosoever will be involved in spreading rumor will be dealt as per law.

"Nothing such incident has been reported. Those spreading rumor won't go unpunished", the police officer said.

Earlier news reports were making rounds on social media that suspected militants hurled a grenade at the residence of a BDC candidate in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Sources, quoting the news report added the grenade missed the target and fell down on the premises of the said house and also not exploded. (KNS)
