Srinagar, 24 Aug 24 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed gratitude to the honorable high court for enabling the liberty of its leaders serving illegal detention/house arrest since August last year.

According to statement issued to KNS, Party’s Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar on Monday expressed gratitude to the honorable High Court for protecting individual freedom of party leaders who had been under unreasonable and illegal detention/house arrests since August last year. He said the right to liberty is one of the most fundamental rights, which he said were being denied to the party leaders on unreasonable and unjustifiable grounds. He said that the party had taken the legal course to ensure release of its party functionaries who had been detained in various in-house, out-house detention centers across J&K illegally.

Imran further added that the release of incarcerated party colleagues would not have been possible but for the positive intervention of the honorable High Court. “Since the liberty of our leaders under detention has been secured and the meetings called in the previous week were successfully held, the habeas corpus Petitions filed by the President and Vice President were disposed off by the Hon'ble Court today. We are indebted to the honorable High Court admitting the appeals and other successive measures taken by the court in this regard. We have throughout maintained that we will fight the injustices committed on us legally and constitutionally,” the party said.

The party spokesperson also expressed gratitude to the party’s counsel Advocate Sharik Reyaz for ably and successfully representing the party in the honorable Court.

NC rues administrative apathy, development deficit in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, 24 August: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday rued administrative apathy and development deficit wide spread across Jammu and Kashmir, saying there is no semblance of good governance and accountability on ground.

While addressing a meet of party functionaries at Nawa e Subah, Party’s north zone president, and Member of Parliament from Baramulla Muhammad Akbar Lone said a year has passed since the measures of August 5 were carried out by center but none of its claims about ushering an era of peace and prosperity in J&K have come true.

“Conversely a functioning, democratic, and effective setup of a state was besmirched and dismembered. Today J&K is no less than a dysfunctional anarchy. A coterie of officers cannot replace people’s representatives on account of their unrepresentative and nonpolitical nature. There is no semblance of good governance on ground; people are at cross roads and hankering for basic, effective and necessary civic amenities. Widespread administrative inertia and development deficit has become a new normal in J&K. The whole system has come to a standstill, with no succor coming for people from any quarter. All the vital sectors of J&K’s economy are ailing and breathing their last,” he said.

“If New Delhi wants J&k back on the track of peace and development, it has to concede to the ground realities, it cannot turn volt face to the genuine worries and aspirations of the people of J&K. There cannot be total redemption of the situation in J&k unless New Delhi does not stand by its commitments it had made to the people of J&k from time to time. Continuing with iron-fist strategy will only compound the issues on ground. J&k is its people,” he said.

He also expressed dismay over the failure of GOI to ensure safety and security of political workers in J&k. “On the security front, the GOI has not been able to ensure safety and security of the citizenry of J&K in particular the political workers. There is an atmosphere of fear in J&K, and administration is clueless about it. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that administration is clueless on every front.
