Banihal; 9, Sept (KNS) : National Conference District Unit Ramban has sought Pahari status to the erstwhile Doda district, saying people living in remote and higher reaches speak Pahari and thus deserve to be considered for benefits of reservations as applicable to this particular category.
“The residents of areas in which majority of people speak the local dialects that include Khashaw (Pogli), Saraji, Bhaderwahi and Padri Kishtwari dialects should be brought under the ambit of Pahari languages and provided the benefits of reservation”, a resolution adopted at a day-long District Convention, held at Community Hall here.
According to statement issued to KSN reads, While welcoming scores of political workers including 2 elected Panches from various parties especially youth of Pogal-Paristan area of Banihal constituency, Shaheen called upon the youth to become agents of change and said that the state is passing through very difficult times where on one hand people of the state especially youth are being pushed against the wall and on the other hand Government is wasting no time in political, social & economic disempowerment of the people of the erstwhile J&K state & it is the youth who have an important and a valuable role to play in addressing some of the most significant and inter related challenges faced by the people, He added.
Mr Shaheen expressed anguish over the dilapidated condition of roads, erratic power and drinking water supply, scarcity of rations and unavailability of essentials. He said the people have been suffering as most of the areas are reeling under darkness and deprived of drinking water facilities.
Mr Shaheen said and urged the people to reject the elements inimical to the pluralistic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the state will progress as a single entity by isolating divisive forces and the National Conference will continue to fight those who want to fragment society in bits and pieces for their petty political interests.
Shaheen exhorted the incumbents to strengthen the National Conference, which he described as the only answer to steer the state out of present morass. “National Conference alone can meet the challenges confronted to the State and steer it to a path of progress and development”, he added.
