Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in a press conference.

Sonia, Patil console Jaipur blast victims

  • Jaipur May 15: Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil surveyed the sites of the serial blasts in Jaipur and went to a hospital to meet the victims.
Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by Patil, drove straight to the blast sites in the old city. She then went to the SMS Hospital where most of the people injured in the blasts are admitted.
After meeting the people, the Union Home Minister said, ''This is heinous. Soniaji and all of us condemn it. We sympathise with those who have suffered loss. This is wrong. Whatever we can do we will do. The state is doing its bit. We will also extend all cooperation. The people of this state have faced this tragedy bravely. We appreciate this.''
Tight security arrangements were made for Sonia Gandhi's visit.
Earlier on Wednesday, Patil had said that he was in constant touch with Home ministry officials in Delhi to get the latest update on the situation in the Pink City. He was also in touch with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and had assured her of all help from the Centre.
Speaking to reporters near Dimapur after attending the passing out parade of Assam Rifles, he appreciated the people of Rajasthan for showing restraint despite provocation by the perpetrators of violence who were trying to disturb peace.

Rajasthan to have anti-terror force: Raje

a

Jaipur May 15: Certain leads have been picked up and some people have been detained in connection with the
serials blasts here triggered by terrorists, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said today. There are some "slender leads" on which the state agencies are working and its difficult to name any terror outfit at present, she told a press conference.
While no one has yet been arrested, some people have been detained for interrogation, the chief minister said in a second press meet since the blasts, but did not give out the number of those being questioned. So far 63 people have died -- 56 in SMS hospital and 7 in SDM hospital, she said, adding that the dead included several women and children. The number of those who sustained injuries in the blasts is 118, she declared.
Raje said 44 bodies have been identified and handed over to the relatives. Replying to questions, the Chief Minister said there was no specific information with regard to the terror strike from central agencies except some regular notices sent on Republic and Independence days to every state. Earlier, Prime Minisiter Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil spoke to Raje on phone and assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the terror strike.
Observing that the blasts were part of a terrorist design to disturb peace in the state, Raje said, "never in the history of Rajasthan has such a heinous incident happened and this is not an attack on the state but on the nation." Raje also added, "It seems to be a job of an International terrorist gang.

Kashmir: Occupied, Partitioned and Disputed
by Vinicius Souza, Caros Amigos, São Paulo

While New Delhi’s population tried to escape from a 40ºC heat by slipping into air-conditioned shopping centers some 400 miles to the southeast, we gazed upon a cold drizzle through the open third floor window of a building without energy in the middle of Srinagar,

Human Dignity vs. Identity-A tale of a valley in distress!
 By K.Asif

Kashmir, a disputed area on the map of the world, is being constantly ruined by the most dragged term here ‘Dialogue’. Once called as the ‘Paradise on Earth’- the vale has more to render in terms of innocent killings, human rights violations and violence. There was a time when Angels would fly over the sky but now demons have taken over.
