Kulgam, Sept 18 (KNS): Residents of Nagam DH Pora of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday staged a protest against the water scarcity in the area.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), scores of protestors assembled near Masjid Shareef Nagam Noorabad and blocked DH Pora Chimer road for hours.
“We are facing immense hardships due to the shortage of water from several months”, said a protestor Syed Rouf Geelani and appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter and provide adequate water supply to the local population amid pandemic situation.
“We are forced to hit the roads if authorities fail to restore drinking water supply to the area at the earliest”, said another protestor.
He further said that the area is mainly dependent on water supply as there no stream or river in nearby wherefrom people will fetch drinking water supply.
Protestors alleged that matter has been brought to the notice of the concerned administration but no improvement has been witnesses.
When KNS contacted AEE Jal Shakti (PHE) Firdous Ahmad, he assured the matter will be brought to higher ups and soon water supply to be restored in the area. (KNS)
