Bandipora, September 24:(KNS) Nadim Memorial Volleyball Championship 2020 concludes today with the Aragam Volleyball team winning the title.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir distributed prizes among winners.
The tournament was played on a double knockout basis. In the nail biting final match between Aragam and Saderkoot Bala at Panchayat ground Gamroo, Aragam won the title by defeating Saderkoot Bala by 3-0. Sajid Pathan was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad, Dysp Hqr Bandipora, SHO Bandipora, Company Commander Bapora Camp gave away the prizes among winning teams.
In-charge Sports Activities, Youth Services and Sports, Peerzada Khurshid Ahmad Shah said 16 teams from various villages of the district participated in the said championship in all age categories.
Speaking on the occasion ADC Bandipora said that the youngsters of Bandipora have showcased an exceptional performance in different activities and received recognition at national and international level. He said the district administration has taken up the task to provide better sports infrastructure at village level so that the youth are able to polish their skills to perform better in competitions.
Mir said during the two phases of Back to Village program and the ongoing Jan Abhiyan campaign, the district administration took up the task to construct playfields in each Panchayat under MGNREGA and 14th FC so that local youth are provided a space to spend their leisure time in productive work.
The senior citizens of the village applauded the role of youths in conducting such activities round the year with an aim to scoop up the talent of the youths in sports activities.
He lauded the efforts of youngsters of Gamroo village for hosting and organizing the volleyball tournament aiming to nurture the sports talent and development of team spirit in the youths of the district. He hoped that more such tourneys will be organized in future and assured every possible support to the youth.
Besides ADC Bandipora, Deputy Superintendent of Police, SHO Bandipora, Company Commander Bapora Camp and other were also present on the occasion.(KNS)
