MHA Suspends 2000-Batch IPS Officer Basant Rath For Gross Misconduct

Srinagar, July 08 (KNS): Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday suspended 2000 batch IPS officer Basanth Rath in connection with repeated instances of gross misconduct.
An order issued by Under Secretary to the Government of India S D Sarkar reads, “Whereas, a disciplinary proceeding against Shri Basant Rath (IPS: RR 2000, JK) is contemplated in connection with repeated instances of gross misconduct and misbehavior, which have been brought to the notice of the Government”.
“Now, therefore, the Competent Authority in the Ministry of Home Affairs, in exercise of powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-rule (i) of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, hereby places, the said Shri Basant Rath, (IPS: RR: 2000, JK), under suspension with immediate effect”.
“It is further ordered that during the period that this order shall remain in force, the Headquarters of Shri Basanth Rath (IPS: RR: 2000, JK), shall be Jammu, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the said Shri Basant Rath (IPS: RR: 2000, JK) shall not leave the said Headquarters without obtaining the permission of DGP, Jammu and Kashmir Police”, order states.
“During the period that this order shall remain in force the said Shri Basant Rath (IPS: RR: 2000, JK) shall be paid such subsistence allowance and dearness allowance as is admissible under Rule 4 (1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, on production of a certificate that he is not engaged in any other employment, business, profession or vocation”, order reads.
Notably former IPS officer Rath was recently engaged in a Twitter spat with Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh after which the former filed a written complaint against the latter in which he stated that the top cop poses a threat to his safety and reputation.
Rath, a 2000 batch IPS officer, wrote to the station house officer of Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar Police Station, stating that while he was not asking authorities to file an FIR, they should make a note of his complaint in case something untoward happens to him.
Meanwhile PDP leader Khurshid Alam had also lodged a complaint against Basant Rath in Police Station Humhama, accusing the top cop of abusive language and issuing serious threats to the senior politician. (KNS)
