LMD recovers Rs 30,000 fine from erring Petrol Pump owner

Srinagar July 28 (KNS) : On the directions of Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Mohammad Akbar Wani, an enforcement team of officials from Legal Metrology Department Poonch/Rajouri, under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Kewal Krishan continued surprise raids on petrol pumps in the twin district of Pir Panchal area.
Today, the enforcement team detected two nozzles of a petrol pump delivering 30ml lesser fuel in every five liter measure. The team immediately booked management of the concerned pump under relevant provisions of law, while seizing both the nozzles and stopped the supply of the fuel to the consumer.
On getting the functions of the pump seized, the management of the defaulting pump today approached the department and pleaded for compounding of the offence at department level. After due legal procedure, the Assistant Controller imposed a total fine of Rs.30,000 and directed the management to apply for recalibration of pump before it is put to use for public delivery.
The Assistant Controller said that every nozzle of a pump is mandatorily required to be test checked by management at least thrice a day as per relevant law and Oil Marketing Guidelines. In case there is lesser or excess delivery than the reading, the concerned nozzle is required to be stopped while prominently showing it “out of order” and thereafter they need to approach the department for recalibration.
The officer directed all fuel stations of the area to keep a 5-litre verified measure at their premises and empower a common person to satisfy the measure of delivery of fuel.(KNS)
