Kupwara, May 10 (KNS): Kupwara Town are facing acute shortage of drinking water. The administration has failed to provide the much basic necessity of life to a large populace of around 16000 people.

We are forced to use the contaminated water from open sources due to shortage of potable water,” said Raoof Hussain, from Ward no 1 of Kupwara Town.

Some other residents said that due to the incessant rains during past few days, the water in nullahs and ponds has become muddy and unsafe for human consumption. “Now that alternative sources of water have been rendered unsafe due to the incessant rains, we are left with no source of potable water. The department concerned is testing our patience ,” said Shaheena Begum, from Kupwara Town.

The sources said the pipeline system carrying water is blocked for a long time. “The irony is the PHE employees didn’t bother to unblock the pipes,” they said.(KNS)
