Kupwara’s border people hail LG’s Helicopter announcement

Kupwara, Oct 01 (KNS):The inhabitants of the border areas of Kupwara have hailed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s announcement of providing helicopter services to people during medical emergencies in the winter months.
Saying that this was the long demand of the people which was not heard by the previous administrations, the border residents hoped that LG will visit the areas himself for on spot assessment of the hardships of the people.
Pertinently, yesterday in a review meeting for winter preparedness, the LG offered Raj Bhawan’s Choppers to the public for medical emergencies and evacuation in Tangdhar, Gurez, Keran, Machhil areas.
Talking to KNS, Arif Ahmad Bajad, a social activist from Keran said during past years several pregnant women died on the way to Kupwara hospital due to snow covered roads. “We are happy to see the LG has understood our hardships and announced chopper service for the needy patients,” he said.
President Traders Federation Kupwara Hafizullah Bakhshi while welcoming the announcement said the border areas of Kupwara particularly Keran, Machil and Karnah face huge problems during winters because roads remain closed. “We heartily welcome the decision and hope other issues of the district will also be addressed by LG sahib,” he said.
Adv Shafiq Ahmad Shah, President Bar Kupwara Bar Association while appreciating the announcement of chopper services for patients of border areas said: “ A true leader empathizes with the people and leads by example to mitigate their sufferings. By offering his own helicopters for patients of the border areas, he set a marvelous example of service to people.” He hoped that LG will also look into other issues of Kupwara district including the understaffed hospitals and absence of diagnostic equipment. “LG is expected to look into the other vital issues of border people like construction of Tunnels on Machil and Karnah roads which will ensure round the year connectivity of these border areas,” he said.
Qazi Abdul Hameed Qureshi , retired Principal from Karnah said the announcement of the LG indicates he is worried about border people. “We are happy by ths announcement but Helicopter services sometimes don't function due to weather issues, so it is hoped that this decision will be executed in letter and spirit so our patients don’t suffer for want of treatment in winters,” he emphasized.(KNS)
