Kashmiri culture needs to be preserved, developed: Gayoor Foundation

Srinagar, Sept 14 (KNS): Gayoor Foundation on Sunday held a day-long meeting of distinguished poets and literary personalities wherein it was avowed to address the neglected aspects of Kashmiri culture.
According to statement issued to KNS, a day-long meeting of distinguished poets & literary personalities of Maraaz was convened by Gayoor Foundation at Pulwama with proper observations of SOPs in view of covid19. The meeting was presided over by a renowned educationist, writer & poet Prof Shaad Ramzan. Delegates of Cultural organization from South Kashmir 'Maraaz' viz-a-viz Nou Adbi karwaani, Maraaz Adbi Sangam, Green velley cultural foundation attended the meeting as well. Day long deliberations centered around various pressing issues facing Kashmiri language, Art & culture.
The participants, during the meeting, unanimously resolved that Kashmiri language needs to be preserved and developed on the pedestal of its 800 year old rich treasure of art and literature. It was resolved that efforts from any quarter to deviate from its Indo-Persian script are unacceptable. Participants also stressed upon that Kashmiri language is our identity and no one will be allowed to fiddle with our legacy, “The Warasut”.
Subsequently it was also decided to register the foundation with Government & autonomous cultural organizations of the country. These things were suggested by Prof (Dr) Shaad Ramzan. Others who also spoke on the occasion include Abdur Rehman Fida, Khaleel Masroof, Bashir Nadim, Fayaz Dilgeer & Ghulam Muhammad Malik Baber.
It was announced that yearly Gayoor memorial awards will be rewarded among the deserved personalities of the society which include writers, poets, journalists, artists, social activists, lawyers, bureaucrats, meritorious students, business men ete & in this regard different committees will come into existence to decide, said Prof ( Dr) Shaad Ramzan in his presedential speech. Showkat Gayoor, the President of the foundation delivered inaugural warm welcome speech to the guests & also paid vote of thanks at the end. He also discussed main aims & objectives of the foundation. S Gayoor also assured that he will endeavour to act upon the suggestions taken from the participants & will work as a solider for foundation. Kaleem Bashir, General secretary of the foundation conducted the proceedings of the meeting. Sr Vice President SGM Andrabi , stressed to undertake efforts to bring Kashmir literature in digital formats so that it reaches younger generation world wide. Ashraf Raavi a budding critic & translator in his speech underscored the untaped cultural potential of Maraaz, encouraging the living poets & artists beside ending their exploitation by vested interest in the cultural field.
