Karnah residents stage protest, demand construction of tunnel at Sadhna pass

Srinagar, Jully 9, (KNS): Resident of Karnah town in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on thrusday stage a protest demonstration against the administration for failing to construct tunnel at Sadhna top which is their long pending demand.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS) scores of resident of border town karnah on Thursday stage a protest demonstration at Tanghdar demanding to construct a tunnel at sadhna top (Nastachan gali) to ease the all weather connectivity holding banners displaying ‘A small tunnel can save thousands of lives’, the protesters raised the slogans ‘Hamari Maang Poori Karo, Ham Kya Chahtay Tunnel Tunnel' (We want a tunnel through Sadhna)”.
The resident of this remote area have been protesting time to time for the last three decades for construction of a tunnel through the sadhna pass but the government were made the only empty promises. In November 2018 a top beacon official told while talking to a local news Agency KNS "a detailed project report (DPR) for construction of 6.13 kilometre tunnel at sadhna top on Karnah-Kupwara road is being formulated" but unfortunately it had passed almost two years so for no progress has been made for construction of tunnel.
Every years people becomes victim of fatal accidents while passing through sadhna top (Nastachan) the demand for construction of tunnel gained momentum after snow avalanche hit two vehicles on Kupwara-Karnah road near khoni nallah at Sadhna top it killed 11 person including an infant on january 5, 2018.
Earlier this year on April 21 Sub divisional magistrate Karnah Dr. Bilal Mohi ud Din Bhat (IAS) along with his driver and the Personal security officer had a narrow escape after the vehicle they were travelling in came under a snow avalanche near Sadhna Top in snowbound area and were rescued by the Army.
The protesters appealed authorities to take the measures to built the tunnel in the area at the earliest (KNS)
