Accute shartage of vaterinarians, paravet leaves animal care in quandary

Srinagar Oct,23(KNS):- Massive staff crunch in Karnah Veterinary hospital of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district has severely hit the animal care and burdened the existing staff.

According to Kashmir news Service (KNS) accute shartage of Vaterinarians and paravet in Karnah veterinary hospital leaves animal care in quandary the official source told KNS that only one veterinarian in the veterinary hospital against the strength of three post for thirty thousand animals similarly six paravet post lying vacant in Karnah veterinary department, against the 15 Attendant posts only two attendant were posted in the department 13 posts laying vacant.
The area is also important because livestock plays an important role in area's economy as it provide livelihood to two-third population of the area.
"There are 32 Panchayat here and round about 30000 animals for which a single veterinary doctor proves himself the animal husbandry care in the area, a local Abdul Qayoom said" he added " When hospitals for human beings are often in bad shape, it appears no one is even bothered about those for ailing animals, I take cow for inseminated three month ago due to non availabity of veterinarian and other trained staff the cow does not successfully inseminated he said we aren’t able to inseminate our cows on appropriate time due to massive staff crunch in veterinary department and non availablity of trained staff in the department, he said a cow comes to heat once in 21 days and needs to be inseminated within 12 hours for a successful insemination missing a single estrus means extension of calving interval by 21 days and a loss of 21 days milk production which sums around 4000 rupees for one cow . Imagine the number of milking days lost for the whole population of cattle in the area and its monetary value in this rural areas even for a simple mastitis infection farmers are compelled to cull their cows due to non availability of treatment facilities.(KNS)
