JKPICCA Delegation Calls on Principal Secretary, Navin Choudhary

Srinagar November 19:(KNS) The Jammu & Kashmir Fruits & Vegetables Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) delegation led by the President Mr Maajid A Wafai, called in the Office of Principal Secretary to Government, Horticulture/Agriculture Departments J&K,  Navin Kumar Chaudhary IAS at Winter Secretariat Srinagar on 19-11-2020 for discussions on the various issues relating to Horticulture sector. The delegation thanked the chair for sparing time for this meeting and also at the same time recognized the proactive approach taken by the Department and appreciated the recent SLEC decisions.

The delegation had threadbare discussions with the principal secretary on both pre and post-harvest management policies in Horticulture Sector. The issue of very low population of refrigerated trucks was taken up and a very positive response was given to the suggestions put forward by the association. Hon’ble principal secretary laid emphasis on the need for development of nurseries in the private sector, so as to catalyze the transformation of traditional orchards into high yielding high density orchards. Mr Chaudhary also strongly recommended to adhere to international practices in fruit packaging/processing and assured full support of the government. He also assured that all the pending issues shall be taken up on prioritized.
The need for development of new markets was also taken up and the association was asked to submit a proposal for organizing an international/domestic buyer and seller meet in J&K. The chair asked the association to participate in various fruit festivals across globe as part of official delegations from the UT.(KNS)
