Use of excessive force to implement lockdown is unjustified: Gh Hassan Mir

Srinagar, May 13 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and former minster Ghulam Hassan Mir on Wednesday condemned the killing of a civilian on Srinagar-Gulmarag highway and demanded a time bound probe into the incident.

In a statement issued to KNS, Mir said termed the use of excessive force in implementing lockdown over COVID pandemic as unjustified. Expressing deep shock and grief over the killing of Mehraj-U-Din Shah of Makhama Beerwah, the JKAP senior leader asked the government to constitute a high level probe to identify and book the culprits as warranted under law.

“There are no words to express our grief over this avoidable loss of precious life. This unjustified use of force to enforce the COVID lockdown only adds to the alienation   and resentment among the people,” he demanded.

Mir said the circumstances, which led to the killing of the youth be thoroughly and fairly investigated in order to fix the responsibility. “No ex-gratia relief can compensate the loss of precious life. However, the probe ordered by the government should reach to some logical conclusion in a fixed time period so that justice is done in a timely manner,” Mir observed.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Mir prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and endurance to bear this irreparable loss. “JKAP stands by the bereaved family, relatives and friends of the deceased at this time of grief and mourning,” Mir remarked, while demanding a stern action against the guilty.(KNS)
