Fully equipped complex for disabled persons coming in District Budgam: DSW Officer

Budgam, December03(KNS): Along with other parts of country and UT of Jammu and Kashmir, International World Disabled Day was celebrated in Budgam also. In this connection an impressive function was organized by Wheel Chair Cricket Association J&K duly supported of District Administration at Town Hall Budgam. The day long function was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Nasir Ahmad as chief guest, Major 53RR, District Social Welfare Officer Budgam, Farhana Asgar, Chairman Wheel Chair Cricket Association, representative from DLSA Budgam, Health and other concerned NGOs and organizations.
Speaking as chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner urged upon whole community that we shall not treat these persons as disabled, they are specially abled, they have the capacity and potential, one needs to deliver in all aspects of day to day life. He said special focus is being provided to launch such welfare scheme which can prove pivotal push for upliftment of their socio economic conditions. It is need of the situation that discrimination approach these persons are facing at some level particularly when employment opportunities are there shall be avoided with strong commitment instead they shall be treated at par with other humans. It shall be our endeavor and desire to help these needy ones when they require it most.
The DSWO on the occasion said that our department is always on fore front to help these specially abled people, there are many welfare schemes launched by the department particularly the department always provide items like tricycles, hearing aids, scooties, after through scrutiny and consider merit. She said we are on the job to identify and locate all such persons as per status of their disability; this will enable us to submit our requirement for future distribution. She further said that department of Social Welfare is going to construct a complex for specially abled persons for which land has already been identified and DPR of the same is submitted for approval.
The function was also addressed by other speakers present on the occasion. A large number of specially abled persons, besides wheel chair Cricket Association Players attended the function(KNS).
