Capacity building training for panches, sarpanches begins

15000 panches, 2100 sarpanches to be trained in 3 months: Mir Jehangir

Srinagar, Jan 27 (KNS): Rural Development Department is organizing capacity building training programmes for panches and sarpanches of Kashmir to enable them to understand the Panchyati Raj Act.The first phase of the programme was inaugurated by Minister for Rural Development and Panchyati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar in Budgam today. Director Rural Development, Mir Jehangir and Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mohammad Rafi also spoke on the occasion.In the first batch 40 panches and sarpanches would be imparted 4-day training in Budgam. The programme would be simultaneously held in all the districts of Kashmir and would complete in three months. Talking to KNS Mir Jehangir said, “More than 15000 panches and 2158 sarpanches would be imparted capacity building training during the programme. The training will be imparted to them by Trainer of Trainees who have been trained in seven State Institute for Rural Developments (SIRDs) of the country.”
“Aim is to impart training to the elected representatives about rules and acts in Panchyat Act besides other schemes under implementation in RDD and other departments,” he added.
The Director said that it was commitment from Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and RDD Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar that the panches and sarpanches would be imparted training so that they will be able to perform their duties in a better way. “Today we have fulfilled that commitment,” he added.
