Horticulture department organizes one day mega awareness programme in Shopian

Srinagar March 20(KNS)      In a big development to boost horticulture industry in UT  LG Manoj Sinha is going to inaugurate Massive high density drive for all districts of UT .Further more govt. have planned a mega programme to make motorable roads in between the orchards for better pick up of fruits. And to make karewas suitable for agriculture water will be make available for that vary purpose a big scheme is also in the list of priorities. The Department of Horticulture today organized a day long Mega awareness at old furit Mandi Shopian,Large number of Farmers participated and put forth problems faced by them regarding Horticulture which were addressed on the spot. On the occasion, District Development Commissioner Shopian Sachin Kumar was chief guest and Director Horticulture Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat was the Guest of honour. All the HDO’s of Shopian district and senior citizens were also present on the occasion. The programme was organized for Information dissemination among orchardists under Centrally Sponsored Scheme MIDH. During the programme 93 Power Sprayers, 7 Tillers, 3 Tractors and 6 Weeders were distributed among orchardists and farmers on subsidized rates. Director while interacting with the fruit Growers advised them to take maximum benefit by availing incentives available under various centrally sponsored and state sector schemes presently under implementation in the division. He impressed upon the farmers to keep close liaison with the field functionaries of the department so that they are able to get maximum benefit under different schemes. He disclosed that department is going to start skill development programme in the temperate areas with an objective to train the local unemployed youth in various propagation techniques like budding, grafting and canopy management techniques like Pruning/training of fruit trees, so that they can act as master trainers and can train other local youth in the same. To give further impetus to horticulture sector in the UT, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken several steps to boost the sector by providing highyielding plants to the growers besides several other schemes have also been launched for this purpose. he also advised the farmers to switch over from traditional farming to high tech farming like establishment of high density orchards, establishment of more CA stores and promotion of cold chain system of transportation, so that orchardists get better returns for their produce On the occasion, various speakers also spoke and briefed the participants about the various activities being undertaken by the department in the district. Particularly Director Horticulture stressed all participants to avail benefits under various schemes. He also said that the department along with district administration are working together for the benefits of farmers /apple growers.(KNS)
