Seeks economic package for the worst hit transport industry

Srinagar, June 20 (KNS): Expressing serious concern over the miserable plight of transporters of jammu and kashmir, in the wake consecutive lock downs , Chairman People's Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has supported the demand for lifting restrictions on the movement of public transport with due care of protocol and health advisories. He said in view of the lockdown being eased out and almost all of the business activities resumed , it was only public transport which continues to remain suspended, thereby severely affecting livelihood of thousatnds of people associated with the transport industry.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hakeem Yaseen while strongly supporting the demand for lifting restrictions on the movement of public transport, with strict adherence to the guidelines of protocol, adding that continued suspension of public transport was eating vitals of thousands of poor workers associated with the transport industry. He said people associated with the transport industry were the worst hit lot due to consecutive lockdowns adding that they and thier families were at the verge of starvation for want of livelihood. He urged the government to take note of the fact that transporters have suffered the most due to continuous lockdowns right from August last year till date.
He said the plea of transporters that " if Government owned buses are plying smoothly on roads, what is the logic for not allowing the private sector to resume their services" was quite genuine. He said the Government should immediately allow transporters to resume thier business besides sanctioning financial assistance to help them overcome huge losses suffered due to consecutive lockdowns. He said in a welfare state, government was duty bound to come to the rescue of ailing transport industry and come up to the expectations of the people associated with it. " A
Comprehensive economic package for the transporters was need of the hour," Hakeem Yaseen maintained .
He said government instructions to the employees to attend their offices , in the absence of public transport , also seems to be ridiculous. " How can employees reach to their offices when there is no public transport, " Hakeem Yaseen questioned. (KNS)
