Srinagar, 02 August (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior Leader and Former Speaker Legislative Assembly Haji Mubarak Gul on Sunday expressed grief over the death of a PDD employee Reyaz Ahmed Rather, who got electrocuted yesterday in Danamazar,Safakadal. The deceased was the resident of Kreshbal and is survived by two sons and a daughter.
While expressing grief, Gul said the heart wrenching incident has saddened him to core. “I am deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate death of a PDD employee in a fateful accident of electrocution.  The deceased I have come to know was electrocuted while fixing fault in a high tension power line.  He was shortly shifted to SMHS hospital where he succumbed to his fatal injuries.  The deceased merits our deference because he has lost his precious life in the line of duty that too on the Eve of Eid Al Adha.  The contribution of such unsung heroes often goes unrecognised. I pray for peace to the deceased and much fortitude to the bereaved family to bear the inconsolable loss. I share the grief of the kith and kin of the deceased on their bereavement and express my unison with them in their hour of grief.  May the deceased be granted highest stations in Jannah by almighty,” he said.
Gul also sought immediate relief and Ex Gratia for the affected family, urging the administration to ensure the well-being of the affected family.

Gul said the employees in PDD have been rendering their duty exclusive of any safety apparatus or required gadgets. “It is a perilous job, and we often hear about such accidents where in scores of dedicated employees lose their precious lives in the line of duty. The primary reason for such accidents is assignment of such tasks as repairing and fixing faults to  casual laborers, who render their duties exclusive of necessary protective safety gear  thus making them prone to such untoward accidents. These ground staffers are capable and hardworking, but most vulnerable at the same time. These people sans necessary insurance cover and are highly underpaid regardless of their toil. The government should ensure the safety and security of PDD employees, the work is perilous.  The toil of these ground staffers needs acknowledgement and merits our gratitude.  The need of the hour also calls for equipping these employees with necessary safety gears to help them withstand the hazards involved in the job.  These people are suffering from pay anomalies and other service issues, I am hopeful the government will provide succour to them without any further delay,”(KNS)
