GDC Eidgah organises day long Psychological-cum-Counseling session under Manodarpan Initiative

Srinagar, Nov 09:(KNS) Government degree college Eidgah on Monday organised a day-long event on Psychological-cum-Counseling session under the Manodarpan Initiative.

In a statement, an official spokesperson of the college said that that the session was organised for the students so that they can overcome their physical, emotional and mental health issues and improve their sense of wellbeing and resolve the post-Covid crisis.

He said that more than 30 students of college actively participated in the daylong session.

He said the inaugural session started at 11:10 AM and Dr Javid A Parray, Assistant Professor, Department of Environment Science and Coordinator Psychological cell apprised the audience with the basic theme of the session.

“Dr Parray stressed the importance and need for psychological and social stress therapy sessions to overcome the different pressures that arise during the current Covid pandemics.”

The spokesperson said that Prof. Fouzia Fatima, Principal GDC Eidgah delivered the concept note and in her address, she appreciated the concern and enthusiastic participation shown by the students and other guests and speakers.

“She also stressed the need for a critical understanding of problems faced by the present student communities during this pandemic. She also mentioned that conducting such sessions would undoubtedly help to make students tackle various psychosocial stresses.”

He said that the Introduction to manodarpan scheme was elaborated by Dr Jan Bashir, Coordinator Psychological counselling cell District Srinagar and Professor in the Department Of physics SP college.

“In his address, he stressed that many students required psychological support because lockdown was new to them and Manodarpan will assist the students, teachers and parents also.”

Furthermore, he mentioned that this global pandemic is not only a severe medical concern but also brings mixed emotions and psychosocial stress for all.

The spokesperson said that Dr Ulfat Jan Assistant Professor, Deptt. Of Psychology AS College, was the keynote speaker for the session.

“She elucidated the role of a counselor in addressing various socio-psychological complexes of the student community in particular in this context she stressed the importance of carrier counselling for students in specific and the need of general counselling for all.”

According to the statement one of the students, Mr Arafat Shabir also spoke on occasion and talked about social stress from student's perspectives and focused on moral and ethical norms.

“In the 2nd session, Madam Arfa JLNM hospital Rainawari conducted one to one counselling session with the student in which carrier counselling and socio-psychological stresses remained the main focus.”

As per the statement the students showed an enthusiastic response for participation in the same.

“Dr Bilal A Dar, Assistant Professor GDC Edigah moderated the session and presented a comprehensive report and the recommendations of the sessions.”
