GDC Baramulla Bids Floral, Warm Adieu to Prof M M Rather


Baramulla December 14:(KNS) Government Degree College, Baramulla organized a mega farewell function in honour of Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather, Principal of the college who superannuated from his active services, spanned over three decades, on November 30, 2020. The event witnessed a plenteous participation from academicians to technocrats to bureaucrats besides teaching, non-teaching, and ancillary staff of the host college. The proceedings started with Tilawat E Koran followed by detailed account of academic and professional journey of Prof. M. M. Rather tabled by Prof. A. R. Malik, Secretary, Staff Council & Head, Department of Botany of the college. Prof. Malik began with congratulatory remarks in honour of Prof. M. M. Rather on behalf of teaching, academic arrangement, non-teaching, ancillary staff, and students of the college. He also welcomed and thanked guests of different colleges and other institutions who had come to attend this farewell function. Prof. Malik while making public the academic and professional expeditions of Prof. M. M. Rather, said, “Words are scarce to define Prof. M. M. Rather as an academician, administrator, leader, and a person with humane heart.” He took recourse to and read out some of the poetic verses of Nasir Kazmi in honour of Prof. M. M. Rather.
The other notable speakers who enlightened and threadbare discussed the life and works of Prof. M. M. Rather with their consequential deliverances included Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division Colleges, Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Hakak, Secretary, JKBOSE, Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad, Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof. (Dr.) Manzoor Ahmad Lone, Principal, Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Principal, GDC Khansahab, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Kamli, Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar, Prof. Tariq Ashai, President, College Teachers Association (Kashmir Division), and Dr. Syed Ahmad Untoo, Islamia College of Science &; Commerce. In addition, Prof. Mohammad Ismail and Prof. (Dr.) Irshad Ahmad Wani, ex-principals of the college also presented their understanding vis a vis Prof. M. M. Rather as an exemplary academician and able administrator. Mr. Mohammad Dilawar of History Department and Ab Waheed, Representative, Non-teaching Staff of the college also presented their views in honour of the superannuating principal, Prof. M. M. Rather.
The speakers highlighted the various facets of Prof. M. M. Rather’s life and yearned to follow the course and benchmarks set by this exemplary academician and able administrator. Integrity, honesty, and sincerity of effort in planning and executing academic and administrative chores are some of the cardinal and defining traits of Prof. M. M. Rather. He would always prioritize institutional and student-centric works over his personal and other engagements. His unprecedented contributions as academician and administrator in lead and premier educational institutions of Kashmir valley were acknowledged and appreciated by all. His colleagues/contemporaries revealed that Prof. M. M. Rather was always praised and appreciated by Mr. Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, J&K on account of his prompt and honest efforts in accomplishing the vision and mission of higher education in the erstwhile state of J&K. All wished him a healthy, happy, and prosperous post-retirement life. Prof. M. M. Rather in his mesmerising address thanked teaching and non-teaching faculty, students, and other stakeholders for organizing a farewell ceremony in his honour. He also expressed gratitude to the guests who had come from different corners of valley to honour him on his superannuation. He shared his academic, personal, and professional experiences loaded with knowledge and wisdom with the audiences. He also shared few success stories with the audiences and underscored the importance of selflessness, sincerity of effort, decisiveness, initiative, integrity, clarity of intention for a successful and serene life here and hereafter. To safeguard life here and hereafter “Link your livelihood with life in the hereafter”, stressed, Prof. M M Rather. This was followed by a felicitation ceremony wherein a floral and warm send-off was given to Prof. M M Rather.
