Fourteen Vehicles Carrying Sand, Bajri Illegally’ Seized by G&M Department in Kupwara

Srinagar, June 10 (KNS): Department of Geology and Mining Kupwara along with Police seized fourteen vehicles carrying illegal extracted material from various Nallah’s of sub-division Handwara of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that a special Naka was laid at Drugmulla during which eleven tippers besides three tractors loaded with sand and bajri were seized.
It said that these vehicles were transporting material illegally extracted from Nallah Langate, Mawer, Talri and others in adjoining areas.
Earlier Department of Geology and Mining claimed to have seized sixty-four vehicles in forty days besides ten lack rupees was recovered from the concerned as a fine.
Sources told KNS that illegal extraction in the Nallah Mawer is going unabatedly with heavy machines including JCBs, trippers and tractors have been put in place while authorities have utterly failed to stop land mafia from this trade.
“Due to continuous digging of Naallah Mawer, the water level has been decreased leaving the farmers of the area in distress and have became the death trap as it has claimed many lives due to dragging”, sources told.
Ghulam Mohammad, a local resident, expressed annoyance over the mum of authorities. He said such kind of recoveries had also seen in past with some arrests but despite such steps, authorities have failed to stop this exercise permanently. (KNS)
