Female Sarpanch Allegedly Attacked In Handwara Over Some Personal Dispute

Handwara, June 25 (KNS): A female Sarpanch of Villgam village of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday claimed that she was attacked at her home by ‘known’ miscreants during which her close relative got critically injured.

In a video clip sent to KNS, female Sarpanch can be watched as saying “Few known miscreants intruded into my residence late Wednesday night and tore my clothes. They also attacked my close relative with a knife and beaten her ruthlessly”.

The lady Sarpanch claimed that she is being asked to resign or face the music and added she can identify the attackers with ease.

However a police officer told KNS that FIRs from both ends stands registered and three persons of both parties have been taken into custody. He added further investigations have been taken up.

He further added that initial reports suggest that it is a dispute over irrigation water. (KNS)
