Srinagar, June 05 (KNS): Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the world almost all sports events across the globe were suspended immediately to limit the spread of the virus. In response to the current COVID crisis, most state and local governments are closing non-essential businesses and schools, prohibiting large gatherings, and requiring quarantines for travellers, in addition to encouraging social distancing. A majority of states have already declared mandatory stay-at-home orders for all non-essential workers.

While talking to grand master of SQAY Mir Nazir he told that we organised first ever online national championship because due to COVID-19 all sports events has been cancelled and players are not able to go out for practice sessions which affected mental health of players so that we initiated this step so that the students will prepare for online national championship at home and the mental health of students will not be get affected due to present situation.

Jammu and Kashmir SQAY association won 2 Gold 2 Silver and 2 Bronze in 1st online SQAY National championship 2020 which was scheduled from 27th May to 30th May 2020 on ZOOM. The championship was organised by SQAY federation of India in which 400 players from 20 different states participated. Players who brought Gold medals for state are Raja Younis Tak and Humaira Bilal, while as Seerat Jan and Hazim Altaf won Silver medal and Haris Farooq and Mehnan bagged Bronze medal for the state

Meanwhile President of the J&K SQAY Association Peer Riyaz Ahmad Shah said we were expecting more medals but due to prevailing situation and lockdown in the state we miss to overcome in the overall medal tally but we are expecting that our players will show much better results in selection trials which are scheduled on 15th July 2020. Our players have a lot of time to learn from the mistakes and will perform better in trials for 1st online International SQAY championship which is scheduled from 27th to 30th July 2020. (KNS)
