Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): The family members of a Kashmiri student from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Friday held a protest at press enclave Srinagar, demanding the release of their son who has been arrested under sedition in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra.

The family members of Showkat Ahmad Ganai from Bandipora assembled at press enclave today and pleaded to the authorities to release their son.

While talking to Kashmir news Service (KNS), they said that their son has been arrested for allegedly celebrating Pakistan team’s victory over India in T20 world cup match on Sunday.

“He was pursuing B.Tech in Agra for the lasy four years. This was the last year of his degree. I appeal to the LG administration to kindly look into this matter and forgive my son as this will save his future,” said Showkat’s father Mohammad Shaban Ganie.

He said that they belong to a poor family and they cannot afford to go to Agra to meet their son.

“We appeal to the authorities to forgive our son if he has committed any mistake. My son is my only hope and I cannot bear to see him behind bars,” said his mother.

She urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to personally intervene into the matter and help release her son on humanitarian grounds.

Notably, three Kashmiri students have been arrested and booked under sedition for allegedly celebrating Pakistani’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday. (KNS)
