Srinagar November 04:(KNS) Society of Dental Surgeons ,J&K (SDSJK) welcomes the keen focus of Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir to resume routine oral health care services as per Covid SOPs across Kashmir Division.

Dr Imtyaz Banday,President SDSJK while hailing the circular has stressed for ensuring the following of Covid SOPs by the health adminstrstors across Kashmir Division in letter & spirit. In the current COVID 19 pandemic, Dental Surgeons, auxiliaries as well as patients undergoing dental procedures are at high risk of cross-infection. Most dental procedures require close contact with the patients oral cavity, saliva, blood, and respiratory tract secretions. Many patients who are asymptomatic may be carriers. For this reason, it is strongly suggested that all patients visiting a dental section must be treated with due precautions under set protocol.Several guidelines have been issued earlier by various organizations and especially Misnitry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI (MOHFW).The standing guidelines are self explanatory and SDSJK stresses for clear cut directions to the health administrators to abide by the same for better patient care and ensure the dental section staff is being fully facilitated and equipped as per Covid guidelines.

Dr Adil Wani Spokesperson SDSJK said that dental technicians who have been deputed to sampling duties may brought back immediately to their respective place of postings so that dental services can run smoothly as per the order issued. Moreover there is dire need of having orderlies for crowd & patient management in and around dental sections as per Covid guidelines for better patient care & safety of health care workers.

SDSJK via this communiqué apprises all dental surgeons to deliberate upon the adminsistrators regarding the requisition of Human Resource & logistics as per Covid SOPs and ensure that all dental OPD patients undergo RAT testing while as any procedure that may lead to Covid Spread & contraction should undergo RTPCR definitely before 24 hours of the said procedure.

Dental Surgeons are one of the most vulnerable lot among health care workers to contract Covid and can be a potent source in spreading the same.It is thus of utmost importance that all Covid SOP guidelies are followed in same way as being followed in theatrical and aersol generating procedures in other sections of the hospitals. Moreover SDSJK stresses for Govt. to wake up from slumber and recruit dental surgeons on fast track basis as there is immense dearth of oral health care services across J&K.(KNS)
