About 5000 Poor Families shall be covered in the Drive: DC B’la

Baramulla, May 18 (KNS): In a significant and welfare initiative to reach at the poor and deserving section of the society, district administration Baramulla today kick-started a special assistance drive wherein the deserving families shall be supported on the forthcoming auspicious occasion of Eid. The move was taken keeping in view the current economic distress that emerged due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Kick-starting the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo distributes about 500 ration kits containing some vital food items viz rice, sugar, oil etc among the poor and needy ones.

Speaking on the occasion, DC said that about 5000 poor and deserving families shall be covered in this drive so that they are able to celebrate the auspicious festival of Eid without any difficulty. He said that the lockdown,that was implemented in view of pandemic COVID-19, the labour class especially vendors, auto drivers and others suffered badly from the economic point of view and all the identified beneficiaries shall be covered before Eid.

Meanwhile, DC said that administration in collaboration with Social Welfare department has mobilized some 08 NGO’s who played a very positive role at this critical juncture. He appreciated these NGOs and urged upon them to play a pivotal role in their respective domains so that deserving ones are assisted under these circumstances. 
Pertinent to mention that these NGO’s have also supported some 2000 families amid lockdown in the form of financial assistance, food packets.(KNS)
