Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Kashmir visits CCSC, Noorbagh

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 23:(KNS) The Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah today visited the Crewel-Chain Stitch Cluster (CCSC) Noorbagh, to evaluate the production and quality workshop being held at Block Handicrafts Office Safakadal, here.

The 10 days workshop has been organised by the domain Experts identified by the Project Management Unit under the World Bank sponsored Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project.

The Director during the visit was informed that the cluster is registered as a Producer Company with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India to ensure ownership to each artisan in the cluster.

He was also informed that the purpose of the workshop is to help the artisans to upgrade and tailor their products based on customer feedback as well as peer learning and hone their selling and negotiation skills. Such workshops help provide better products and services to the consumers while benefiting the artisans from larger marketing opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director illustrated that the government has a strong commitment to empower the artisans by strengthening partnership between the national as well as international markets with the artisans, leverage enhanced intervention through various Government interventions for their upliftment effectively.

He further stated that the intervention of the project will improve the capacity of the cluster to meet the evolving trends in the global markets. He also stressed to reach out to all the artisans and link them to sustainable livelihoods opportunities by building strong and stable grassroots establishments for the artisans.

During the visit, the Director interacted with the experts as well as the artisans linked with the cluster. He expressed his gratification with the functioning of the cluster and was impressed by the larger participation of women in the programme.(KNS)
