DEO B’la reviews measures regarding Panchayat, ULB bye-Elections

Baramulla October 10:(KNS) District Election Officer Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today chaired a meeting of concerned officers to discuss various measures regarding the smooth conduct of upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) bye-elections in the district.

On the occasion, threadbare discussion on various aspects viz updation of electoral rolls, finalization of polling locations, counting plan, location of collection and distribution centres and other necessary matters pertaining to the elections was held.

The DEO called for coordination and synergy among all the departments besides directed them for making all the requisite arrangements well in advance.

He also exhorted to ensure all basic facilities at each designated polling station and emphasized to sort-out all bottlenecks, if any so that the process is conducted smoothly

Meanwhile, the meeting was informed that 149 sarpanch seats and 2165 panch seats are lying vacant in district Baramulla. It was further informed that 28 seats of councilors in various MCs are also lying vacant. However, all the positions of BDC chairpersons have been filled in the previous BDC elections.

Among others, the meeting was attended by SSPs of Baramulla/Sopore, Dy DEO, ADCs, SDMs, Executive Officers, BDOs, besides various other concerned functionaries.(KNS)
