Tangdhar, September 30 (KNS): Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today appealed the people and elected members of Panchayat Raj Institutions to participate in ensuing Back to Village-3(B2V3) programme wholeheartedly as it has been envisaged to register the vistas for the development of new Jammu and Kashmir.
The Advisor, who was on a two day visit to the border area of Karnah sub division, attended Youm-e-Block (Block Divas) event at public park Lountha, on the conclusion of his two-day tour.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Anshul Garg; Sub Divisional Magistrate Karnah, Dr Bilal Mohiddin Bhat; several district officers, BDC Chairpersons, PRIs and people in large numbers attended the event.
Speaking at the occasion, the Advisor said that time has come when people can themselves make plans for their development. He urged upon the people to coordinate with the administration and the PRIs to ensure sustainable development of their respective areas.
Advisor Khan said that Karnah has huge potential for tourism development and the Government is committed to develop the area to attract nature lovers here. He appealed to the people, especially youth to preserve the natural beauty of the area.
The Advisor appreciated the efforts of BDC Chairpersons for pooling the funds provided for their local area development towards the upgradation of power and health sector in the area. He added that the people of Karnah have set an example of their political and social maturity.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara Anshul Garg, gave a detailed resume of development scenario to the public and said that officers have done tremendous job during the Jan Abhiyan (Awami Muhim) in resolving issues of the people at their doorsteps.
Later, the Advisor inspected the stalls established at public park Lountha by various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal & Sheep husbandry, ICDS and other departments and distributed cheques of the Labour Department among the beneficiaries.
The Advisor also participated in a local block divas event which was organized at Government High School, Khawarpara.
On the occasion, he also listened to the demands projected by the Sarpanchs and civil society members and appreciated people for knowing their rights and projecting demands.
He assured them that the government has special planning for development of border areas like Karnah, Karen etc.
On the occasion, the Advisor distributed sports kits of volleyball, cricket and carrom boards among the local Panchayats.
Early in the morning, the Advisor visited Chamkote in Teetwal block, situated near the Line of Control and inaugurated Annual Cricket tournament of Government Degree College, Tangdhar and witnessed the first match played between the teams of GDC-A and GDC-B
On the occasion, the Advisor had a brief review of sports activities in the subdivision with Sub Divisional Magistrate Karnah, Brigade Commander and College Principal.
The Advisor also inaugurated Community bunkers at Hajinar, Baghbella and Khawarpara.
These bunkers have been constructed to safeguard the lives of people from the cross border shelling. The Advisor was informed that 120 Secure Shelter Sheds ( Bunkers) have been taken up in hand at a cost of Rs 12 Crore , of which, 52 bunkers have been completed while the rest are near completion.
Advisor Khan also visited SDM Office and inspected the public library there, which was specially established for Civil Services aspirants and the youth of the sub division.
The Advisor stressed the need for proper sustenance of the library and asked DC Kupwara and SDM to run the library on auto mode.
The DC called for the high speed internet facility for the computer lab of the library.
The Advisor also had separate meetings with officers and enquired about their functioning.
