Srinagar, Sept 19 (KNS): As Government of Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir is all set to implement NEP-2020, country’s prestigious professional college National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar is functioning without a Chairperson since November 2017. Though Union Ministry of Educations was apprised by the concerned authority to appoint a suitable person or grant an extension to erstwhile Chairperson but no step in this regard has been taken so far.
Kashmir News Service (KNS) has learnt that country’s most prestigious professional college NIT, Srinagar is headless since 23.11.2017 due to which the progressive development and affairs of employees and students have been affected badly.
Sources said that on September 11, 2020 a letter was shot to Ministry of Education New Delhi wherein it was apprised that the erstwhile Chairperson, Board of Governors (BOG) NIT Srinagar Dr M J Zarabi had completed his tenure on 23.11.2017 and was requested the concern ministry for either granting an extension to Dr Zarabi (erstwhile Chairperson) or for the appointment of new Chairperson.
“Dr. M J Zarabi completed his tenure as Chairperson, Board of Governors (BOG), National Institute of Technology Srinagar on 23-11-2017. Since then, we have been requesting for either granting an extension to Dr. Zarabi or for the appointment of new Chairperson, BOG NIT Srinagar”, letter reads.
Union Ministry of Education was also served a list of few eminent academicians/administrators of J&K who have served the institution in several capacities directly or indirectly, may be option for the nomination of the coveted positions of this prestigious institution of the Country.
“It is worth to mention that few eminent academicians/administrators of J&K have served this institution in various capacities directly or indirectly, may be the options for the nomination of the coveted position of the prestigious institution of the country or as your goodself deems suitable/proper which includes Prof. A M Wani, Former Director, National Institute of Technology Srinagar; Prof. Abdul Wahid Quarshi, Former VC, Central University of Kashmir; Prof. Wahid Siddique, Former VC, Islamic University Awantipora-Kashmir; Prof. Mohammad Sultan Khuroo, Former Director SKIMS, Soura- Srinagar and Shri. Mohammad Shafi Pandit, Former Chairman, Public Service Commission J&K”, letter reads.
It further reads, “The appointment of the Hon’ble Chairperson will be in the interest of the institution for progressive development and subsequently for the betterment of employees and students. This favor will also help us to implement the New Education Policy -2020 on fast track basis and shall become model”. (KNS)
