Srinagar, June 21 (KNS): In a scathing attack on the former Mayor, Junaid Mattu and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC), former deputy mayor, Sheikh Mohammad Imran on Sunday says that councillors irrespective of the political ideology passed no-confidence motion to fight corruption and professional arrogance sprouted and spread by ex-mayor.

“Corruption has to go. Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) must work in a transparent and accountable manner. The corrupt and arrogant people must be ousted. People of Srinagar want local governance. They want civic services. They are fed up with the corrupt practices and arrogance of the former mayor”, said the former deputy major, Sheikh Mohammad Imran.

Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) in a presser have called the “joint mandate” of the councillors irrespective of the ideology to which they belong to pass ‘no-confidence motion’ against the ex-mayor Junaid Mattu on the grounds of corruption charges and professional deformity as “politically disturbing fact”. The ex-mayor, Junaid Mattu in a series of tweets also tried to confuse the people of Srinagar by infusing the ‘arithmetic debate’ to camouflage his corrupt and professional deformities.

talking to KNS, Ashraf Palpori, a JKPC Corporator and Chairman enforcement demands an impartial investigation in all the alleged scams done by the former mayor. Palpori said, “He does not care even for the chair for honesty. I love people and will give my blood to them. I will always stand up as a strong force against corruption in SMC.” Palpori being a member of JKPC, contradicts the views of the former Mayor that Sheikh Imran has garnered BJP support to oust him. “I belong to Junaid Mattu’s party (JKPC), and I stood against corruption and professional arrogance. It is my moral duty to do so”, Palpori added.

Junaid Azim Mattu contested the SMC election as Independent from four wards, winning from three of them and was elected Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) with the support from the BJP and the Peoples Conference.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu was removed from his position on Tuesday through a no-confidence motion he was facing for the third time in his tenure since he was elected in 2018. Mattu blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party and National Conference for his removal. Sheikh Imran called this as ‘mental frustration’ after losing the no-confidence motion and said, “Junaid Mattu was elected Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) with the support from the BJP and the Peoples Conference in 2018. Now if parties have taken the support back, the questions arise why they did so. It is leant that BJP has withdrawn their support to Mattu as BJP felt that it couldn’t be a part of the corrupt system run by ex-mayor”.

Sheikh Mohammad Imran said that he was made deputy-mayor with the support of congress and independent councillors in 2018 when Junaid Mattu was elected the mayor with the help of BJP. “I am not subscribing to views of any political parties, and I am here to provide the good local governance free from corruption and professional arrogance”, he added further (KNS)
