Construction of Community bunkers in border areas non- starter

Karnah, May 15 (KNS): Despite spike in Cross border LOC shelling led locals, administration in border areas has yet to start construction of bunkers.
The residents demand Expediting the construction of community bunkers, for which government has sanctioned 25 crores for construction of community bunker along LOC kupwara and Baramulla districts 20 each bunkers for Uri, Boniyar and Keran, 15 for Machil and 60 for tangdhar and teetwal sanctioned in February last year.
Pertinently the administration in Tangdahar and teetwal in consulatation with civil society and panchayat representatives after deliberations proposed to the Government to construct 120 bunkers instead of 60 keeping in view the population and geographical conditions of the areas by reducing the dimensions of bunkers from 72*32 to 35*15 of so as to address the demand of the people and the proposal was later approved.
The residents demand immediate construction of community bunkers as recent border shelling which led to casualties has created fear among the people.
Talking to KNS, Dr Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat SDM Karnah said that due to corona virus outbreak the land identification got delayed and will hopefully be completed within next week.
" we are on it as we have succeeded to identify land for 84 bunkers and the construction work on 15 bunkers has already started and within next few days we we will be able to to take the construction of remaining bunkers.," he said.
ADC Baramulla Mohammad Ahsan Mir also said that construction process for community bunkers will be started soon in Uri and Boniyar. (KNS)
