Urges people to save democracy, democratic institutions

Srinagar August 14: (KNS) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today greeted people on 74th Independence, urging people to rise to the occasion to save democracy, democratic institutions.

The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir has greeted people on 74th Independence Day and said the Nation would continue to remain indebted to freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for the prestige and honour of the suppressed people of India.

G.A.Mir termed the occasion as an outcome of the countless sacrifices and services given by the Father of the Nation and thousands of freedom fighters for achieving freedom from British Rulers.

On this day India ceased to be a colonial Nation and secured freedom from the British that ruled over it for a long time, Mir said.

The day holds a great significance for every Indian and it will continue to remind us about the selfless services by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and thousands of freedom fighters, who fought against the British Rule and achieved freedom.

After achieving freedom, the Congress Party under the leadership of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nerhu worked very hard and built the Nation, bringing it at the track of development and prosperity, as result, the Nation emerged as a strong and largest democracy, in which every section of the people enjoyed equal rights & equal treatment irrespective of their colour or religion, Mir said.

On this occasion JKPCC President expressed anguish over the prevailing circumstances in the country, which were apparently detrimental to the democracy & democratic institutions established by the Congress Party in the country post-independence.

India was unique democracy because of the beauty of its democratic institutions, which ensured equal rights to every religion and colour, but unfortunately, the present dispensation was hell bent upon to undermine the authority of these vital institutions, which is not healthy sign for healthy democracy.

Mir said the democratic institutions were being targeted one after one inorder to crush the genuine voices being raised against the wrong policies of the BJP RSS and appealed the people to ensure that democratic rights of every section were not harmed.

Our leaders have given their blood for Nation building and ensured equal rights, safety and security to people through democratic institutions, which were in great danger under the ruling dispensation.

I would urge upon the people of India to rise to the occasion to save democracy, save Nation, as that will only ensure unity, harmony, besides guarantee the equal rights to every section, colour and religion, G.A. Mir added and wished a very happy Independence day to people.(KNS)
