Srinagar, January 1:(KNS) Apni Party State Secretary Muntazir Mohi-u-Din on Friday pledged that his party is committed to get the pristine glory of Shehr-e-Khaas restored so as to provide a conducive atmosphere to its creative inhabitants.

The event was attended by the party workers who had come from different places of Khanyar constituency. Addressing the meeting, Mohi-u-Din, who is also Party’s District President Budgam observed: “Apni Party leadership has pledged to bring back the lost glory of Shehr-e-Khaas. We will put in our unstinted efforts to achieve this objective which will benefit all its inhabitants especially the artisan community which has been unfortunately neglected sofar.”

He further added that Apni Party is currently working for the waiver of artisan loans that will serve as a sigh of relief for the community who are directly or indirectly linked with the handicrafts sector.

In a statement to Kashmier News Service (KNS) reads that “Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has already taken up the case of artisan’s loan waiver with the concerned authorities in the Lt. Governor led government and the union government and in this regard we expect some good news very soon,” he added.

He stressed on the need for formulating a planned housing policy for the Shehr-e-Khaas saying that almost every year, especially in the winter season, people hear the news of houses being gutted in devastating fires in the Old City.

“Most of these incidents take place in these highly congested areas of Shehr-e-Khaas. It’s because we lack a proper Housing Policy for the Shehr-e-Khaas residents and no serious efforts have ever been made during the last many decades to decongest this area for better civic amenities,” he remarked.

District President Srinagar Noor Mohammad Sheikh also spoke to the workers on this occasion. He commended their efforts for strengthening the party and working tirelessly for the welfare of local citizens in Khanyar.

Sheikh said, “Shehr-e-Khaas has its own history. It has remained the hub of trade and commerce for centuries and a center of pride. But in the recent past due to negligence and sloppiness of the concerned authorities, the share of development that Shehr-e-Khass deserved was never given to it. The artisans and craftsmen belonging to these areas are distressed and need utmost support from the government. Also there is a dire need to revive the handicrafts sector and the Apni Party will see to it that the government schemes are comprehensively implemented for revival of this historic industry.”

He also expressed deep concern over the growing drug menace saying that Shehr-e-Khaas has a great youth potential but due to unemployment drug abuse has become a plague among a major chunk of its youth population.

“We all need to work against this menace and in the meantime we particularly the government should remain steadfast in providing new horizons to our youth regarding employment generation,” he remarked.

The meeting was also addressed by Party youth leaders Muzaffar Reshi, Khalid Rathore, Mohsin Zaffar Shah, Imtiyaz Rather, Aijaz Rather and Imran Bhat.

At the end of the meeting, the organizer of the meeting and the constituency incharge Mohammad Yaseen Choodisaz thanked the State Secretary, the District President Srinagar and all the workers for attending the meeting. He assured to organize many such events in the future that will help to foster a strong bond between the party leadership and its workers.(KNS)
