Commissioner Secretary I&C appreciates JKI for procuring cocoons from cocoon rearers


Srinagar Sep 20(KNS): A review meeting was Sunday conveyed by Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Dept. M.K Dwivedi where in the progress of the procurement of the Cocoons by JKI in the Jammu region was discussed.
According to statement issued to news agency KINS, MD JKI briefed that as directed, JKI has procured 60,000 kgs of Cocoons worth Rs.5.00 crores from the Jammu Division in the auction organised by Sericulture Dept.
While appreciating the efforts of JKI the Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Dept. noted that the procurement of Cocoons has brought much needed relief to the thousands of Cocoon rearer families in Jammu region who were in financial distress due to the non- participation of the outside buyers in the cocoon auction process .
Commissioner Secretary directed the management of JKI for undertaking a similar exercise in Kashmir division. Managing Director JKI, informed that on the previous given directions JKI would be procuring 50,000 kgs of Cocoon worth Rs.4.0 crores in the forth coming auction being organised by Sericulture Department in Kashmir Division from 21st September 2020.
Further MD JKI, informed that the Cocoon procured in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions would be reeled in the recently modernised/ setup Filatures in both Jammu & Kashmir divisions yielding around 40,000 kgs of Silk Yarn.This yarn would be further weaved into approximately 4.6 lacs meters of various types of Silk fabricsworth Rs. 23 crore sat Jammu Silk Weaving Factory and Rajbagh Silk Weaving Factory .(KNS)
