Police action against people kept under quarantine disturbing: Ab. Rahim Rather

Srinagar, April 28: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leader and former legislator Abdul Rahim Rather on Tuesday flayed police action against people who were kept under quarantine in Anantnag.

“The police action against the people who were kept by the administration under quarantine at Degree College Anantnag is extremely disturbing. Instead of listening to their genuine concerns; silencing them through coercion is unwarranted and condemnable,” Rather observed.

According to statement issued to KNS, the JKAP leader said that the district administration Anantnag should pay a heed to the genuine demands of the people and order police to show maximum restraint. “While we appreciate the proactive role of departments of health and revenue under the risky conditions to limit the spread of deadly Coronavirus disease, it is imperative upon the district administration to provide basic facilities to the people who are kept under quarantine,” Rather demanded.

He said over 100 people have been kept under quarantine at Degree College Khanabal but without any proper facilities which has made their stay inhospitable. “Reportedly the inadequate facilities and hostile conditions have prompted some people to escape this quarantine centre. Instead of suppressing these people through police action, the civil administration should address their demands and mitigate their sufferings,” Rather added.

The JKAP leader demanded that the people who have sustained injuries in the police action should be immediately provided with medical treatment. “I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and appeal the administration not to behave with these people as criminals. The apathetic approach of the administration is bound to defeat the purpose of the battle against the deadly disease. I appeal the J&K government to ensure all basic facilities in quarantine centres so that the people kept there are treated in an effective manner,” the JKAP leader demanded (KNS)
