Chidambaram demands release of Mehbooba, others

Srinagar, August 06 (KNS): Senior Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram Thursday demanded release of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and others and appealed people to raise collective voice in this regard.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Chidambaram tweeted, “We must all raise our collective voice and demand that Ms Mehbooba Mufti be released forthwith and all those placed under house arrest be allowed the freedom they are entitled to under the Constitution”.
“Today is August 6. Will all political parties and right-thinking citizens please spare a thought for the virtual prison in which 7.5 million Kashmiris are living for the last one year”, he said in another tweet.
Notably J&K authorities took hundreds of political leaders and activists under “preventive detention” hours before New Delhi took away the special status of J&K under Article 370 and 35(A) on August 5, 2019. The detainees included three former CMs of J&K – Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti – Though senior and junior Abdullah were released after a detention of more than 7 month while PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti is still not been allowed to step out from house detention.
