Can conduct of Amarnath Yatra be safe during spike in Covid-19: MP Fayaz Mir questions

Srinagar, July 12 (KNS): Member Rajya Sabha Fayaz Mir on Sunday expressed grave concern over the spike in Covid-19 cases and subsequent deaths and appealed LG led administration to revisit the decision of carrying out Amarnath yatra in current situation.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mir stated that since government lifted restriction on Covid-19 lockdown, there has been a huge spike in caseloads which should be a grave concern for us. He said it was satisfactory during previous lockdowns the way government dealt with the situation but afterwards the situation slipped out of hands and the virus transmitted at an alarming rate.

He said that it is good if government is revisting its earlier decisions and reimposing restriction for the wellbeing of people and imposing lockdown but when all activities have been put into suspension, it seems illogical on part of government that why the lives of pilgrims of annual Amarnath yatra have been put at risk?

MP Fayaz Mir said that those who have to travel from other parts of country with an aim to pay obeisance to cave, their safety should be a matter of concern for Government.

He questioned if religious affairs of other communities have been suspended, why authorities allowed Amarnath pilgrimage in wake of increasing number of Covid-19 cases. (KNS)
