Srinagar, Apr 19 (KNS): Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) has provided APL ration crds to poor families of Mawer and Kralgund areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district which left hundreds of little earning families into distress.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), hundreds of poor families hailing from Mawer and Kralgund areas of Kupwara district, who have hand to mouth earning and have no government employee or business person in their families alleged CA&PD department for providing APL ration cards instead of AAY and BPL cards.

Residents said they moved from pillar to post from last several years to get BPL ration cards as they have little income which hardly manges their survival. They alleged that CA&PD department has randomly issued APL ration cards to the locality without taking the financial strength of residents into consideration.

Ghulam Ahmad, resident of Mawer locality said “I am a labour by profession and the CAPD department has issued me APL ration card which is injustice with my family".

Another resident from Kralgund area Javaid Ahmad told KNS that the condition of our area is not different from Mawer. He said, “Government has recently announced free rice for AAY and BPL category but how could we avail the facility when the concern department has issued APL ration cards to us.

He appealed administration to think over it otherwise the concerned families will die of starvation as there is no work to do in pandemic times.

When KNS Contacted Deputy Director CA&PD Mohammad Akbar, he said the department will look into and will address the genuine demands of localities. (KNS)
