Srinagar, Sept 10 (KNS): Several students studying in Government College of Engineering and Technology, Ganderbal on Thursday protested in favor of early conduct of online mode of examination amid ongoing pandemic situation.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), dozens of B. Tech. students of third semester hit Srinagar’s Press Enclave and staged a protest against college authorities. Holding placards and banners, the students demanded justice with their career and mental health.
They expressed strong anger against college authorities and alleged them of playing with their career. “In two years we have just accomplished two semesters and exam of third semester is yet to be conducted due to ongoing pandemic situation. This way college authorities are playing with our career and left the community ruined”, protesting students told KNS.
They claimed that they had already been imploring authorities of Cluster University to conduct online exams like other colleges and universities without further delays, the authorities are delaying and dragging degrees.
Students alleged that they are not being apprised of the mode of exams as further delays and uncertain situation is leaving them frustrated and averse to academics. “We are already in the eight month of the third semester. What is the harm in conducting it online?”, protesting students questioned.
They added the community had boycotted online classes for the forth semester as the exam of 3rd semester is yet to be conducted, despite repeated requests.
They demanded early online conduct of exam for 3rd semester and said we can’t pursue forth semester with the burden of previous loads.
Controller of Examination, Cluster University, Srinagar Khurshid Ahmad Mir while expressing over the matter, said the exam for the said semester was deferred after college authorities received representation from bulk of students who couldn’t complete their syllabus due to unavoidable circumstances.
He directed students to take up studying the next semester without waiting for the exams of the third semester. “The University is preparing for offline examination which may take some time wherein students will be given an opportunity of Multiple Choice Questions, unlike earlier descriptive methods”, he said.
