ASHA workers met, Parliament Members, submit memorandum of demands


Srinagar October 9 (KNS): As a part of national-wide programme, a delegation of ASHA workers Union, Kashmir affiliated with CITU met Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice (R ) Hasnain Masoodi and Mohamad Aker Lone, Hon’ble Parliament Members and submitted a memorandum of demands.
The delegation was comprising of Misra President, Mubeena Vice-President, Gulshana Treasurer, Heleema from Srinagar, Nazia from Kokernag Anantnag , Meema from Shoipan, and Tahira from Kupwara.
The demands included immediate increase in the remuneration of ASHA workers. Pay all the pending wage and allowances, implement the recommendations of 45th and 46th ILC for regularization of ASHA workers as workers; Minimum wages Rs.21000 per month and pension Rs.10000 per month; providing of ESI and EPF to all scheme workers, making of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes like NHM permanent with adequate budget allocation, Inclusion of ASHA workers in the category of Workers. Withdraw the anti worker Labour Codes.
They demanded that the government should provide them with sufficient PPE kits, including face shields, N95 masks, hand sanitizers, and gloves. That apart, the association demanded regular health check up and free treatment to ASHAs who have contracted COVID-19.
The members of parliament gave them patient hearing and assured the delegation that they would raise the issue with Union Government.
