Kifayat Rizvi reviews functioning of Labour Department

‘Pending cases should be disposed off immediately’

Srinagar, Nov 24 (KNS): Commissioner Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi convened a meeting to review the functioning of the Department here today.
Director Employment, Joint Director Employment, CEO Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board, All Assistant Director Employment, All Assistant Labour Commissioners of Kashmir Division were present at the meeting.
During the review meeting, Commissioner Secretary was briefed about the activities of the Department and apprised about the implementation of various Labour laws in the State.
It was given out that the safety and the interests of laborers and working class be ensured. The concerned were directed that besides payment of wages, the pending cases pertaining to labourers should be disposed of immediately.
The Commissioner Secretary stressed upon the officers to maintain proper registrations and never refuse applications. They were also asked to maintain note sheets, adding that the good work will be appreciated while more needs to be done in this sector.
He asked them to undertake immediate measures to educate the working class about various schemes, which are being implemented for their welfare.
Stressing on the need to create awareness among labourers about their rights, Rizvi said Department is committed to create an enlightened and disciplined workforce and bringing about desirable behavioural changes in the workforce in the organized and unorganized sectors.
He further stressed that every effort has to be made that labourer’s registration under different schemes is hassle-free, and in this regard, directed officers to establish a worker-friendly mechanism in their offices which will eliminate delay and undue problems being faced by the beneficiaries.
Rizvi asked the attendees and other officers to ensure that employers take all safety measures for workers and labourers at the working places.
Rizvi called upon officials to facilitate early disposal of long-pending cases so as to serve the cause of justice and bring relief to those affected by the delay in disposal of such cases. (KNS)
